Auditions

We would like to announce the audtions for the Spring productions (yes, there will be 2 this Spring). Auditions will be held on Saturday, 13th February from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Talkin' to a Stranger (#21B, Street 294). We are looking for actors for both, but we also need people to help with the production so please come to the audition if you are interested in backstage work. Both of these productions feature an older cast compared to the Panto, so there is a minimum age of 13. Also, please pass this along to anyone that you might know who would be interested in participating.

The two productions are:

Art

(to be directed by Lesley Saunderson) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%27Art%27_(play)
3 actors (all male cast), about an hour with 2 acts
Tentatively scheduled for either the end of March or the beginning of April

A Cabaret

(to be directed by Sarah Outhwaite)

This spring, the Phnom Penh Players present an original cabaret experience. We want to build something intriguing, sexy, and imaginative for the Cambodian audience, and we want to give YOU the chance to be intriguing, sexy, and hilarious onstage. In this email you will find everything you need to know about how to join the show, whether onstage or off.

What is a cabaret?

An evening of seemingly unlinked acts: Mélanges of text, movement, and music. A catch-all term for nightlife, revues, burlesques, vaudevilles, variety shows, political send-ups, drag shows, and avant-garde debacles. High culture meets pop culture. The word “cabaret” gives creators great freedom, and promises audiences a damn good time.

What will our cabaret be like?

That will be shaped by who is involved; by what they want to do (and can do). I will be building with you, as well as guiding, editing, and organizing the evening as a whole. We have an aesthetic to start our imaginations going: the weird history of America in the late 1800s, at the height of vaudeville, and in the early 1900s, at the start of silent film. These tropes will mix with your personal stories, fictions, and fixes to create something that’s very much about Cambodia, but set very far away.

Thanks and see you Saturday,

PPP
